A 3-ton, lightly armored semi-tracked vehicle, the Hanomags were used primarily as an infantry transport for the Panzer Grenadiers, but were also utilized as command vehicles and supply carriers.  Over 18,000 vehicles in the SdKfz-251 series were manufactured during the course of the war in a wide variety of weapons configurations.
